The FHI elogbook and the ICSCP
The logbook you are using is properly referred to as the FHI logbook, as it was developed from the original BAUS logbook by the Faculty of Health Informatics at RCSEd. Many trainees are concerned about recent rumours and statements regarding compatibility between the FHI logbook and the ICSCP. Some trainees have been given information that another logbook-originally the ASGBI logbook logbook is "preferred" by ICSCP, or even that only the ASGBI logbook will be compatible with ICSCP. One group of trainees has been wrongly told that they "must" use the ASGBI logbook. Such statements are incorrect and on occasions mischievous. There are currently some issues between FHI and ICSCP concerning the confidentiality of your data, but these can be resolved and you can be assured that the FHI logbook will be fully comaptible with ICSP, so that trainees in Urology, along with those in T&O, Neurosurgery, ENT and others, including many in general surgery, can continue to use the FHI logbook with confidence.

In 2003 SAC in Urology declared that all SpRs who began training on or after 1st January that year had to use what was then the BAUS logbook, and this requirement passed to its successor, the FHI logbook. In practice what matters is that trainees keep an electronic logbook from which they can retrieve data for use at the annual RITA process, as well as maintaining a database of experience for use in the consultant appointment process, and in case of future medico-legal or disciplinary action. The 211 SpR users of the FHI logbook find it suitable for their purposes. We welcome all feedback from users, and do our best to incorporate suggestions.
