The Faculty of Health Informatics has developed the eLogbook for use across all surgical specialties.
The eLogbook has cost the Faculty of Health Informatics (FHI) & the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) in the region of £250,000 to develop and it is now costing about £80,000 per year to run.
We are in the process of reviewing the financial arrangements we have with users.
Current Users are asked to pay (voluntarily) £30 per year. For SpRs in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery this has been subsidised 50% by Biomet Europe for the past 2 years, but not for other grades of Orthopaedic Surgeon.
The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) has recently approached the FHI about a block registration of all BOA Members and Fellows for the eLogbook (as part of its annual BOA subscription) which would result in a 25% reduction of the registration fee per person and we await a final decision on this.
Other Specialties are also discussing such an arrangement.
An announcement about this will be made in April 2006.
