Palm OS Electronic Logbook - Version 1.1

We are pleased to announce the release of the first Version of the Palm OS electronic logbook, this is designed to work on OS4 and OS5 versions of the operating system.
We will be providing limited support for this product and enquires should be made through the message board system or support form.
System Requirements
  • Windows 98, 98se, ME, 2000 or XP (Home or Professional)
  • Palm OS device OS 4 or 5
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6
  • Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5 or greater (standard in XP)
  • Palm OS Hotsync
Instructions for use
  1. Download the Palm Installation program from here
  2. Run the installation file and install the upload utility onto your Windows PC.
  3. Start up the Upload Utility, please ensure that you are connected to the internet when you first start it up, this will enable you to correctly setup you hospital, Consultant and Specialty Operation Codes.
  4. The application will then attempt to setup the synchronisation conduit for Hotsync.
  5. Upload the correct version of the programme to your Palm Device, either through the menu in the Upload Utility, or by double clicking in explorer the correct file in the applications directory under "PalmFiles"
  6. Hotsync your Palm device this will install the application and also synchronise your database so that all the correct operation codes, hospital codes and Consultant codes should be on your PDA.
  7. Launch the "Electronic Logbook" from within the Applications section of your PDA.
  8. The system operates as a "store and forward" logbook, i.e. it allows you to enter records in the operating theatre off-line, coding the operations correctly with up to date codes, later when you connect to your PC and Hotsync, these records will be synchronised to the upload utility where they can then be transmitted securely to the "thin client" web application for safe storage.
  9. Please note there is limited security built into the Pocket PC system, so in between entry of operative records and transmission to the College Servers any records stored in the PDA are potentially vulnerable if your PDA is stolen.
