Logbook Data Protection policy
Who owns the eLogbook data? – The registered eLogbook user owns his/her data. In the UK it is essential that the eLogbook user is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a Data Controller – This is a legal requirement.
Who has access to individual eLogbook data? – As a surgical trainee a number of people have access to your data and these individuals are clearly laid out in our “Information for Trainees” document. As a surgical Consultant or Specialist, your eLogbook is treated as completely confidential and would only be accessed with your consent. However it is anticipated that in the future we would be able to produce collated reports of surgical activities in the UK. We would always seek the Consultant/Specialist’s prior agreement in order to do this and any information distributed would always be non-attributable to individual Consultants/Specialists.
The eLogbook administrators are totally committed to Confidentiality of the contents of all eLogbooks and, for this reason we strongly recommend that all Passwords remain secret – known only to the user
Explanatory documents in PDF are now availabe for both trainers and trainees.
